A 450 t capacity Grove GMK7450 all-terrain crane with a Mega-Wing-Lift attachment erected a wind turbine on a private site in Reinsbuttel, Germany. The E-70 wind turbine from Enercon stands 113 m tall and has a 71 m rotor. Components for the wind turbine included a 45 t nacelle, a 54 t tower and 42 t blades.
The crane, which belongs to German rental company Bäumer, worked with 40 m of main boom and 31 m of luffing jib. Mega-Wing-Lift is a capacity-enhancing attachment that gives Grove’s GMK7450 all-terrain crane even greater strength in the boom, making it able to lift greater loads, especially when the boom is working at steep angles. This makes the attachment particularly useful in applications such as erecting wind turbines or lifting onto tall buildings in congested downtown locations.
Harry Müller, operator for Bäumer on the project, said there was a noticeable difference using Mega-Wing-Lift on this project.
“Lifting with the Mega-Wing-Lift really improves stability,” he said. “From the cab you notice the increased strength at tall heights and it’s a perfect innovation for jobs such as windmill placement.”
Bäumer took delivery of its Grove GMK7450 in June this year.
